Qatar – Avanceon bags a contract for the provision of state-of-the-art SCADA and PLC based Control System to manage surface and storm water volumes received from countrywide drainage networks for a leading Infrastructure & Utilities company in Qatar. This project is a part of Government’s effort towards providing a sustainable solution for the discharge of surface and storm water in the country after getting it treated according to the highest internationally approved specifications.

The overall project includes the construction of a pumping station and one of the longest outfall tunnels in the world (10 kilometers long with a depth of about 30 meters below the ground surface) to receive storm water runoff and groundwater flows for treatment and disposal. This main tunnel is linked to the existing and planned drainage networks in the areas that traverse through, and will collect and discharge surface water from approximately 170 km² of catchment area, as it is connected to rain water drainage networks in 22 vehicle tunnels.

Avanceon has been tasked to provide a viable control and automation solution for seamless handling of operations for the whole network. Avanceon will be collaborating with one of the leading Industrial Software Solutions providing firms in the world to execute this project.

Project’s scope of work includes design, engineering, supply, Installation, configuration, testing & commissioning of following systems:

  1. SCADA and PLC based control system including HMIs and Video Wall
  2. Power Management System (PMS)
  3. Vibration Monitoring System (VMS)
  4. Building Management System (BMS)
  5. Networking, GSM Connectivity and CCTV
  6. Access Control System
  7. PAVA and Telecommunication System
  8. Field instrumentation and cabling in addition to local control boxes, isolators and junction boxes
  9. Control System for Generator Control Panel
  10. Operational and Maintenance Trainings

The project is scheduled to be completed in the last quarter of 2021.

At this occasion, Avanceon’s Head of Middle East; Sarmad M. Qureshi – has said;

“I am proud of my company and our teams for this achievement of securing a large Automation contract under this impeccable One Billion Riyal Main EPIC contract. This is a massive pumping station and will operate at a capacity of 19.7 cubic meters per second.  It’s great that Avanceon is part of this strategic project which is designed to ensure the preservation of the marine environment, as the water, which will be pumped complies with the environmental assessment standards, and it is discharged ten kilometers off-shore to reduce the effect on the marine environment”

In 2017, on the basis of strategic nature and design elements, this project has won the global best project award in the wastewater category, during the Engineering News Record (ENR) Global Best Projects Awards in New York City, in the presence of a group of the largest international companies executing global construction projects.
